Quick Answers About the Kasol, Malana, and Tosh Tour Package

How many days are enough for a Kasol, Malana, and Tosh trip?
This package is 5 Nights / 6 Days, covering Kasol as a base, a trek to Tosh village, a forest trek to Kheerganga, and a day trip to Malana before returning to Delhi. Travellers wanting a more relaxed pace or an extra acclimatisation day should consider adding a day.

What is the best time to visit Kasol, Malana, and Tosh?
March to June and September to November are the most pleasant months for trekking in the Parvati Valley, with clear trails and comfortable temperatures. Winters (December to February) bring snow, which can make the Kheerganga trek more challenging, and the monsoon (July to August) is best avoided due to landslide risk on hill roads.

Quick Trip Facts

  • Duration: 5 Nights / 6 Days
  • Starting Price: Rs. 8,999 per person
  • Destinations Covered: Kasol, Tosh, Kheerganga, Malana
  • Best For: Trekkers, backpackers, first-time Parvati Valley visitors

Best Time to Visit Kasol, Malana, and Tosh

The Parvati Valley is at its best from March to June and again from September to November, when trekking trails to Tosh and Kheerganga are clear and daytime temperatures are comfortable. Winters bring snow to the higher points, which can make the Kheerganga trek more demanding but also more scenic for experienced trekkers. The monsoon months of July and August see heavy rain and a higher risk of landslides on the hill roads to Kasol, so this is generally the least suitable time to travel this route.

Who This Trip Is For

Trekkers and Outdoor EnthusiastsThe forest trek to Kheerganga and the walk to the hidden village of Tosh, set at over 7,800 feet along the Parvati river, are the heart of this trip.

Backpackers and Budget TravellersKasol’s laid-back café culture and the twin-sharing hotel and camp stays make this an accessible, budget-friendly Himalayan trip.

First-Time Parvati Valley VisitorsA well-rounded introduction to the valley, combining Kasol’s markets, the Tosh trek, Kheerganga’s forest trail, and a visit to the culturally distinct village of Malana.

Friend Groups on a Himalayan GetawayAn easygoing, trek-focused itinerary that suits groups of friends looking for an active mountain trip away from the more touristy hill stations.

What Most Travellers Get Wrong

  • The local transfer from Bhuntar to Kasol (about 22 km) is not included in the package and needs to be arranged by travellers on their own, typically by local taxi or bus.
  • The Kheerganga trek is a genuine 8 to 9 km forest trail, not a short walk — travellers should come prepared with proper trekking shoes and enough water and snacks for several hours on foot.
  • Rohtang Pass sightseeing is not included in this package and, if desired, requires hiring a local cab from the transport union in Manali separately.
  • Air conditioning does not function on hill roads on this route, and in some hill areas even the vehicle’s music system may not work — a vehicle limitation on mountain roads, not a service issue.

🧭 Travel Expert Tip
Walk into Tosh village itself rather than stopping at the parking area below it - the short uphill walk (20-30 minutes) is where Tosh's actual character, wooden houses and valley views are, and most day-trippers never go that last stretch.
⚠️ What Most Travellers Get Wrong About Kasol, Malana & Tosh
Most travellers treat Malana as a casual village visit. Malana has its own distinct customs and strict rules against touching village property or residents - respect posted local guidance, since this is a genuinely different cultural context from a typical hill village stop.
🎒 Packing Tips
  • Sturdy walking shoes for the Parvati Valley's uneven village paths
  • Layered clothing - valley evenings turn cold quickly
  • A reusable water bottle - the Parvati river is scenic but not for drinking untreated
  • Cash - card acceptance is very limited in Kasol/Tosh/Malana
📸 Photography Tips
The Parvati River valley is at its greenest and most photogenic just after the monsoon (Sep-Oct). Tosh's wooden-house village against the mountain backdrop is best shot from the upper village paths in late-afternoon light.
🛡️ Safety Tips
River banks along the Parvati can be slippery and currents are stronger than they look - avoid swimming in unmarked spots. Respect Malana's local customs and any posted restrictions. Mountain weather shifts quickly; carry a rain layer even on clear days.
Travel Insight
The valley village that some historians link to Alexander the Great's army
Malana is one of India's oldest democracies, with its own ancient system of governance and a local legend tracing its people's origins to soldiers from Alexander the Great's campaign - the village has long kept itself culturally and physically distinct from its neighbours.
