Mahakumbh — A Journey That Changed Me

A Traveller Story by Priya Majethia

This Traveller Story follows a solo Mahakumbh travel experience through Kashi and Prayagraj. Mahakumbh is recognised by UNESCO as part of humanity’s Intangible Cultural Heritage, and it sits alongside our other spirituality-focused journeys.

I never thought I would ever travel alone.

As a woman, safety has always been my biggest concern. Somewhere in my mind, I had always believed that travelling alone was not meant for me.

But Mahakumbh changed that belief.

I still don’t know where I found the courage to travel alone to a place I had never been before. Maybe it was destiny. Maybe it was God’s call. Or maybe I was simply meant to experience this journey on my own. And today, I feel incredibly blessed that I did.

My journey began with Kashi—a place that cannot simply be described; it has to be felt. Standing at Manikarnika Ghat, witnessing the Ganga Aarti, visiting Kashi Vishwanath Temple… I got goosebumps. There was something so powerful, so peaceful and so spiritual about the entire experience. The serenity was overwhelming. For a few moments, everything else in life seemed insignificant.

And then came Mahakumbh.

I woke up before sunrise and travelled to Prayagraj. I took that little boat towards the Sangam, completely alone, yet somehow I never felt alone. When I took that sacred dip, I felt something inside me shift. It felt as if I wasn’t just cleansing my body. I was washing away my fears, my worries, my pain, my doubts… everything I had been carrying for so long.

For those few moments, I felt light. I felt peaceful. I felt connected to something much bigger than myself.

Then I visited Sitamadhi, the sacred place where Sita went back to Mother Earth. The silence and serenity there touched something deep within me. It was as if the entire place was whispering, slow down… breathe… you are exactly where you are meant to be.

And through this entire journey, there was one constant source of comfort—Magna Voyagee. They never made me feel like I was travelling alone. From suggesting a safe girls’ hostel to helping me with every small thing, they were always just one phone call away. I trusted them, and they never let me down.

But perhaps the biggest thing they gave me wasn’t just a well-organised trip.

They gave me confidence.

Confidence that I can go places on my own. Confidence that I can take care of myself. Confidence that being alone doesn’t necessarily mean being lonely.

Mahakumbh was not just a trip for me.

It was a journey inward. A journey of faith. A journey of courage. A journey where I discovered a stronger version of myself.

I went there as a woman travelling alone…

and I came back knowing that I am never truly alone.

Some journeys give you memories.

Some journeys give you experiences.

But some journeys quietly transform you.

Mahakumbh was that journey for me. ❤️

And Magna Voyagee didn’t just become my travel partner for this journey…

they became my travel partner for life.
